Myofascial Release Techniques: Safest and Most Effective at FNCC

For millions of American, chronic pain affects nearly every aspect of their lives, greatly diminishing their quality of life and negatively impacting their relationships and careers. However, with Myofascial Release Therapy, such as offered at Functional Neurology Chiropractic Center in Orlando, can help improve this debilitating problem.

Understanding the Fascia’s Role in Chronic Pain

All throughout the body, a web like structure known as Fascia interconnects the body systems to provide stability, structure, and cushion. Trauma, such as from a surgery or injury, can cause scar tissue adhesions in this delicate structure forming painful restrictions in energy and blood flow.

How Myofascial Release Therapy Helps

The main goal, regardless of the actual technique used, is to release these restrictions, improving blood and energy flow, and relieving chronic pain that has so far been unresponsive to other treatments. For best results, this hands-on therapy may need to be repeated a few times depending on each person’s unique situation.

The Technique

The technique used in our office for myofascial release therapy is that of a slow pressure. During the therapy, Dr. Bartoe feels the area for the restriction and applies a steady but gentle pressure. This pressure slowly releases the restriction. As it releases, the doctor moves his pressure to further alleviate the restriction. This technique can also include rotational movements and even pulling movements.

Side Effects of Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial Release Therapy, though completely safe for the majority of patients, does have some reported side effects, however, these effects are generally mild and short lived, but can include:

  • Muscle Soreness as the Site of Treatment
  • Uncomfortable, but not Painful Sensation
  • Joint Soreness

For the majority of patients, however, there are no bothersome side effects.
